Men’s Volleyball Final Four Preview

The Penn State Men’s Volleyball team will play in the NCAA Semifinals at 9 pm tonight in Los Angeles. This year’s team still has some unfinished business from last year after losing to Ohio State in the semifinals last May.

Fourth-seeded Penn State (23-5) plays top-seeded UC Irvine (24-5).The winner will move on to the National Championship game against the winner of second seeded USC (23-5) and third seeded Lewis (26-6) on Saturday at 10 pm. USC and Lewis play after the conclusion of the PSU game, tentatively scheduled for 11 pm.

Penn State earned their spot by winning the EIVA Championship, hosted in Rec Hall, last weekend. The Lions beat Princeton and George Mason to advance to their 14th straight Final Four. UC Irvine won the MPSF league championship to earn their spot, beating USC 3-2. USC would go on to receive the one available at large bid.

Penn State played both USC and Lewis University earlier this year. The Nittany Lions dropped both matches, by scores of 0-3 and 1-3 respectively. The Lions have not played UC Irvine this year.

The semifinal games can be seen live on NCAA.com. The NCAA Championship will be shown live on ESPNU and ESPN3.com at 10 p.m. on Saturday. You can also follow the matches on Twitter at @PSUVolleyball.
