UPDATE: Missing Student Found Safe And Unharmed
UPDATE (May 11, 4:00 p.m.): Jon Steindorf (pictured above) is safe and unharmed, according to a one sentence press release just sent from the State College Police department.
Original story:
Jon Steindorf is still missing as of Sunday evening, but his mother now says her son wasn’t set to graduate this weekend and had in fact withdrawn Penn State prior to his disappearance — a fact unbeknownst to the family.
Remarks from Steindorfs mother, Joanne, on Facebook indicate that she had anticipated her son would graduate this weekend, but she instead discovered he no longer attended the university. It could be a potential clue as to the strange disappearance that, so far, hasn’t turned up any substantial leads.
Here’s her statement in full:
Thank you for all of your prayers and concern for Jon. And thank you to everyone who is out searching for him and sharing the message of Jon’s disappearance. Jon had been enrolled as a Penn State student and our understanding was that he had completed classes and we were anticipating him to graduate this weekend. The most recent information we have is that he was not, in fact, still enrolled, and was not on the list to graduate. That does not matter to us. We love Jon dearly and want him to return safely to his family and friends. If anyone has seen Jon, or has any idea of his whereabouts, please contact me or the State College police department. Jon, if you are out there, we love you. Please come home.
Joanne was to pick up her son from his apartment at 4:00 p.m. on Friday for graduation. But he wasn’t there, and the Steindorfs swiftly reported his absence to the authorities.
“The police have gone through his apartment, talked to his roommate and took his phone for forensic analysis,” Joanne Steindorf told The Daily Collegian. “We’ve been in contact with all of his friends, everybody they know, and really are just at a loss as to his whereabouts.”
According to the Centre Daily Times, State College police have received calls for possible sightings, but nothing has come of the tips. Jon’s father Paul Steindorf told the CDT there was no reason to suspect foul play.
Those with any more information are urged to contact State College police at 814-234-7150. You can view additional pictures of Jon in our previous coverage.
