Sheetz On Pugh Street Officially Opens For Business

Sheetz, or Wawa?

The age-old debate amongst college students has reared its head once more. Sheetz, a popular convenience store and gas station chain permeating most of western Pennsylvania, has now expanded into Downtown State College on Pugh Street, replacing the late Duo Nightclub that shut down due to legality issues. From smoothies to artery-clogging fried goodness at the Made-To-Order station, Sheetz can fulfill all your late night cravings. As of 10 a.m., management officially opened its doors for business. I decided to lace up my shoes, and prepare myself for this journey — a journey that no New Jersey native has undertaken before.

Pre-made, ready to go food and snacks are located adjacent to the entrance for your convenience, making quick and systematic purchases a possibility for those on a time crunch.

Prepare to be bombarded with a plethora of food choices as soon as you walk in.

To ease the flow of customer traffic, this Sheetz has implemented an ordering island with touch screen menus all around.

Food not on your palate at this moment in time? Just grab a quick cup of liquid energy for your 9 A.M. or those tearful all-nighters.

Get your caffeine fix on.
Get your caffeine fix on.

Complete with a dining area, you can either enjoy your sandwich or finish that paper you’ve been putting off. Either way, you have all the time in the world to do so at this 24/7 establishment.

Oh, it doesn’t stop here. A few paces further into the store, I found myself ruminating on the seemingly endless shelves of junk food. It was as if the gods answered my prayers. I stood here for several minutes staring off into the haven of high sodium, high fructose ridden ambrosia before employees and customers began to stare at a 21-year-old with a camera in a state of trance.

A fully stocked variety of candy to get that sugar fix.
A fully stocked variety of junk food to satisfy any person’s munchies.

My magical journey did not end here. As I grabbed a few of my favorite snacks and headed towards the cash register, I saw the legendary sign that has been spoken of for generations. The legends were true. No New Jersey native has lived long enough, nor has ever been brave enough to journey into the unknown and seek out the Beer Cave.

So this is what heaven looks like.
The journey had just begun for me.

Alas, my happiness was short-lived. I was disappointed to approach the windows of the legendary Beer cave only to find a barren wasteland, similar to how my soul felt at that moment in time. However, the Beer Cave is anticipated to be fully stocked soon.

Keep in mind, young grasshoppers, that the Beer Cave is off limits to those not of age.

At the very back end of the store, one can find a quaint corner next to the MTO pick-up station to eat your food.

Also featured in the new establishment is an upstairs deck, for those seeking an outdoor culinary experience.

All in all, State College’s new Sheetz is more than well equipped to serve the needs of the average college student, and should receive an influx of business because of it.
