5 Things Eric Barron Loves (In Celebration Of His Birthday)

You guessed it right, folks: Eric Barron turns 65 today. If you forgot about Bae-ron’s birthday, you’re in luck, because many of his favorite things can be found around campus. To celebrate our president, we’ve prepared a list of five things he loves. These are a few of his favorite things.

Ice Cream

Barron’s favorite Berkey Creamery ice cream flavor is alumni swirl.

Rocks

On his personal blog, Barron said the best birthday gift he’s ever received was a kit to test the hardness of rocks when he turned nine.

Puns

Speaking of Barron’s blog, it’s called Digging Deeper. His undergraduate degree is in geology. Ha-ha. Get it?

His Wife, Molly

If you’ve seen Molly Barron directing the Blue Band for her signature song Hey Baby, you know how precious she is. Eric Barron told Tallahassee Magazine the couple wanted to get married on July 11, 1981 — the first anniversary of their first kiss — but Molly Barron’s brother couldn’t make it. So July 18 was their wedding date.

“We celebrate July 11 as anniversary of first kiss,” he said. “It gives us a week’s head start on our anniversary.”

Reading

In a Q&A article by Pamela Monk when Barron ran for State College Area School Board, Barron said some of his favorite books are Two Years Before the Mast, a work on Great Books by David Denby, the author Howard Fast, To Kill a Mockinbird by Harper Lee and The Once and Future King by T. H. White.
