The Three-Quarter Turn

Blue Band HatThe Three-Quarter Turn is a new feature here at Onward State. Named after the signature Blue Band Pregame 270 degree right hand turn technique, this segment will report on what the Blue Band is bringing to Beaver Stadium and Penn State every week. From performance schedules to half-time show themes to special news coverage, The Three-Quarter Turn has got you covered.

For this week’s home game against Akron, the Blue Band will be performing two shows. As always, the 110 year old Marching Blue Band will be featuring the PSU and LIONS formation during the famous Penn State Pregame Show. Keep a look out for precision drill and the famous Penn State Fight Songs that have been a staple of Blue Band and Penn State tradition since it’s inception.

The halftime show features a tribute to the King of Pop. Platinum hits from the Jackson Five as well as Michael Jackson’s solo endeavors will be showcased. Here is a rundown of the songs included during the halftime show:

  1. The Love You Save
  2. ABC
  3. I’ll Be There
  4. Beat It
  5. Thriller
  6. We Are The World

.

Don’t miss the 310 member Blue Band do Michael’s iconic Thriller Dance in the middle of the halftime show.

Also listen for some new stands tunes you’ve never heard the Blue Band play in Beaver Stadium before. There are a certain pair of rock ballads you are sure to love. If you catch what they are, leave a comment below.

It is definitely worth mentioning to remind you Onward Staters that the Blue Band performs a postgame show on the field. Generally, the performance will be a mixture of Halftime Show tunes as well as the venerable “Lion Special.” And for an additional treat, watch the drumline perform on the 50 yard-line after the postgame show. Most students don’t know about these last gameday performances, but believe me, they are a great opportunity to hear the world famous Penn State Marching Blue Band.

Another performance that the Blue Band gives is that of “TailGreat”. The show starts in the Bryce Jordan Center around 2 hours before kickoff. Come join the cheerleaders, dance team and the Blue Band to get yourself riled up for the game. The Blue Band will feature songs from their halftime show as well as Pregame.

Question of the Day: Sweet Mobile Apps

AT&T is sponsoring a pretty cool competition in which entrants can win $10,000 cash in scholarship money for creating a mobile device application. Teams of up to four people can enter a custom-built application for the purpose of e-learning.  The rules state that the “innovating e-learning mobile app” should be functional across multiple platforms. Submissions are due by September 15, 2010 and so far there are only ten teams signed up. So my question for you is:

If you could develop a mobile device application, what would it do?
