LAUS Dean Long Discusses Social Media

Christopher Long, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies in the College of the Liberal Arts, has released this video discussing his vision of how social media can enhance students’ undergraduate experience. The video is quick, so take a minute to watch it before reading my take below.

All in all, I think Dean Long has some interesting ideas on how to build community within the college. Here are some of his ideas that I feel are particularly effective

  • Engaging more students by giving them a forum to showcase their work
  • Filming lecture events and making them available online
  • Make the educational process more dynamic and reflective

It will be interesting to see how these ideas are implemented. We’ll be sure to share links to lectures of note if they are made available.

Southern Kitsch and Sweet Tea at Cracker Barrel

After several months of anticipation, I was finally able to check out State College’s new Cracker Barrel on its opening day. Located at 215 Colonnade Blvd., there are few surprises at the chain’s new location. With rows of rocking chairs out front, checker boards and a game of peg solitaire at every table, I could have been at any franchise location in the country — not that that’s a bad thing.
