Scheduled PSU Speaker Arrested

Lieutenant Dan Choi was arrested along with Jim Pietrangelo – both are gay Iraq vets who have been discharged from the army (Choi’s is pending) – because of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” The men were taken into Park Police’s Anacostia station on charges of “failure to obey lawful order” after they handcuffed themselves to the White House fence.

The two marched to the White House after Choi spoke at a Human Rights Campaign rally for DADT, where he faulted President Obama for not moving fast enough to overturn the policy that allows LGBT people to serve as long as they keep their mouth shut.

You may be wondering how this is pertinent to Penn State. Choi is scheduled to speak here this upcoming Wednesday, March 24th in the HUB at 7:30 as a part of Pride Week. As of now, Lt. Choi is still going to speak as planned; his agent said he “should be out soon.” Which is great, because Choi is a wonderful advocate for LGBT rights. Hearing him speak would benefit more than just the LGBT community. He’s lead an interesting life and had many interesting experiences that most would appreciate hearing about. If everything does work out and Choi makes it down to speak, consider going.

Kiwi Fro-Yo Comes to Penn State

The Kiwi Yogurt chain is opening its newest store right here in State College, next to the Student Book Store at 324 E. College Ave, this February (no word yet on exact date). Kiwi is a Maine Line, Pa.-based, family-owned company founded in 2008 set on providing “the ultimate dessert experience.”

And it is quite the experience. When you walk in, there is – prepare yourselves – a wall of frozen yogurt options. You get to walk up to this beautiful wall and vend yourself as many flavors as you like.
