Penn State Rankings-Mania!

We’re number one (or 14, or 19)! The major preseason polls have all been published, so here is a recap of where Penn State is located in each of the major polls.

The Nittany Lions highest ranking is 14th in the USA Today Coaches poll. The Associated Press has Penn State at 19, and ESPN.com has the Lions at 21. With such a wide variety, which one is correct?

The USA Today poll definitely has Penn State too high. There is too much uncertainty at the quarterback position and on the offensive line to think that the Lions will remain consistent enough to be 14th. The AP and ESPN.com polls are probably closer to being correct for this team. Penn State has enough talent to be ranked, but will struggle with a tough road schedule that includes Alabama, Ohio State, and Iowa.

Obviously, preseason polls are a bit of a guessing game, and Penn State has several opportunities to climb up the rankings with some good wins. However, I think the AP poll has Penn State in the right position. What do you think? Does Penn State deserve to be 14th, or is 21st where the Lions belong?
