Distraction of the Day: Sports Illustrated Cover Jinx

What do Tom Brady, Pete Rose, Texas high school pitcher Jon Peters and former race car driver Pat O’Connor all have in common? They have all been on the cover of Sports Illustrated and faced disastrous consequences for it soon after. These range from streaks being ended (Peters and Rose) to season-ending injuries (Brady) to death on the track (O’Connor).

Well who is on the cover this week?? Why, it’s none other than Alabama running back Trent Richardson, who is filling in for defending Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, a player likely to be out of this week’s game due to knee surgery.

We here at Onward State would never wish ill-will on an opponent, but if the grounds crew left a rake outside of Alabama’s tunnel before the start of the game or turned the sprinkler system on the Tide’s first offensive series, we might be okay with that. Just sayin’.
