9/11 Memorial Service Tomorrow at Old Main

It's hard to believe that this Saturday will mark the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. To remember that day and honor those who lost their lives, a memorial service will be held at Old Main at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 10.

5 Songs for the Weekend-Crunk Edition

So you're working on a kick-ass playlist for the weekend, just in time to watch the Alabama game, and you want something recent, but not overplayed, to put on the speakers leading up to the game. Basically, you need something to play after that power hour, right?

So here will be a collection of songs each week, either new, relatively new, or even just trending that week for those missing music times. And yes, we know the weekend starts on Thursday.

State Theatre Suddenly Loses Its Leader

Mike Negra, the executive director of the State Theatre, declared on Tuesday that he will step down. His last day as the leader of the theatre will be September 21. No reasons have thus far been given for the sudden announcement.

Seniors Brainstorm Ideas for Class Gift

Seniors, student leaders and special guests all gathered in the Beaver Stadium Recruitment Center Tuesday night to discuss the 2011 Senior Class Gift.

Overall Chairperson Ben Witt opened the night by explaining that the Senior Class Gift is an opportunity passed down to each class through tradition. He encouraged seniors to keep submitting ideas until the Sept. 17th deadline, no matter how good or bad they may be.

Distraction of the Day: Sports Illustrated Cover Jinx

What do Tom Brady, Pete Rose, Texas high school pitcher Jon Peters and former race car driver Pat O'Connor all have in common? They have all been on the cover of Sports Illustrated and faced disastrous consequences for it soon after. These range from streaks being ended (Peters and Rose) to season-ending injuries (Brady) to death on the track (O'Connor).

Khaled Hosseini Talks “The Kite Runner”

Afghan-American author, Khaled Hosseini, will be speaking as a part of the SPA Distinguished Speaker Series on September 30th. The lecture will be at 8:00 p.m. in the Eisenhower Auditorium.


Tickets for this event are first available on September 16th at the regular ticket hours. Admission is free and Penn State Students are given a priority. Two tickets will be available for each Student ID card. The general admission tickets go on sale on Thursday, September 23rd.
