Penn State XC Has Strong Showing at Home

The Penn State cross country teams both had very impressive showings in defending their home turf at the Penn State National this past weekend.

Both had top 3 finishes, with the men finishing 2nd out of 27 teams and the women finishing 3rd out of 31 teams.

The Penn State men individually dominated up front with juniors Kyle Dawson and Vince McNally finishing 2nd and 3rd overall. The women’s squad was led by a sophomore, Brooklyne Riddler, who placed 20th overall for the Lady Lions.

The junior duo of Dawson and McNally are on a hot streak. They’ve been running well against elite competition, as their run at Penn State followed both of them finishing in the top 15 at the Notre Dame Invitational in their last invite. The men’s team is highly experienced, as the top 5 for the Lions was rounded out by junior Chris Cipro, finishing 25th, and seniors Owen Dawson and Ryan Foster, finishing 30th and 31st overall.

The Lady Lions also had a strong pack of their top runners with junior Caitlin Lane finishing 25th overall and sophomore Natalie Bower placing 27th, both behind Riddler’s 20th place showing. The Lady Lions’ 4th and 5th runners, Kara Mllhouse and Lindsey Graybill, finished 3oth and 35th respectively to close off the balanced pack.

The cross country teams are now done with regular meets for the season, and will be off until their next meet, the Big 10 Championships, Oct. 31 at the University of Wisconsin.
