Cuban Hip Hop at Penn State: Don’t Take a Siesta…
This week is full of hip hop, now including, for the first time at Penn State, Cuban rappers. The trio of rappers includes Soandri del Rio, Ariel Fernandez and Miki Flow.
The event starts this Thursday with a film screening of “East of Havana”, a movie about three underground rappers and their journey to get their music heard. This movie will be shown at 4 p.m. in the Foster Auditorium in the Pattee library. After the film, Cuban artists will hold a panel for questions and answers.
Then on Friday, at 3 p.m. in 105 Business Building, do not miss the interdisciplinary panel and discussion called “Globalized Hip Hop: Power from the Margins to Mainstream”. This features professors Ronnie Burrage, Chenjerai Kumanyika, Alyssa Garcia and Tanya Saunders from Lehigh University.
Following this discussion at 8 p.m., in the Pollock commons tlounge, there will be a showcase and open mik featuring special guests OG Tha Arsonist, Ronnie Burrage with his students Drew Jackson, Equille Williams and Ugo Onyianta. And after all of these performers, DJ Alejandro will have an open floor for you to show off your caliente dance moves.
If you are into Cuban music, hip-hop, or just plain fiestas, this is one event you do not want to miss!
