Participate in THONward State 2011

We’re set up at press row for our third annual THONward State weekend of coverage, and we’re freaking excited. The Bryce Jordan Center looks great. Committee members are spread across the floor awaiting the impending arrival of the dancers.

We have some cool stuff planned for this weekend– posts, pictures, liveblogs, videos, and tweets galore. You know us though. We don’t cover events in quite the same way as some other local media outlets.

We know that you all are more than capable of sharing your own stories. The way I view my job this weekend is simply to show our readers the best stuff coming out of the Jordan Center over the next few days.

For those of you following at home, our goal will be to provide an experience that makes you feel like you’re really here. We’ll have the livestream on our homepage throughout the weekend, in addition to dynamically refreshing Twitter streams and constantly updated liveblogs. We want to show you all the great things going on at THON.

For those of you who are students checking in between visits to the Jordan Center, we want you to come to us for an update.

And for those of you who are, just like us, here for the weekend– join us! Participate in the online THON experience.

Onward State will be soliciting community content throughout the weekend in a number of exciting ways. It can be a picture, a tip, a video clip, or heck even a full story (we would love to see some kid profiles!).

Community content
As always, we encourage you to submit content that will be featured on our homepage! This is the perfect way to get us an article or a feature you wrote about one of your dancers, your THON children, or just all the crazy ways that you’re staying energized this weekend. This is especially great for College of Communications students looking for places to publish their stuff!

Email dropbox
Have a great picture but no place to publish it? Email it to us and we’ll take care of it! Cell phone pics, short videos, whatever! Just get them into the [email protected] inbox anyway you can (I can haz smartphone?).

Text messages
We have a special Onward State telephone number set up for THON weekend. At any time over the next few days, text or call (814) 7131-BJC with a tip or other message! We want to know what’s going on!

Penn State and the Process of Life

To paraphrase Mark Twain: The reports of higher education’s death have been an exaggeration. American universities produce more research and relevant knowledge for the world at large than any other institutions I know of. Tuition may be too damn high, but over the long-run, undergraduate degrees are definitely worth the cost. But Penn State could be so much more. It used to be, I think.
