THON 101: Focus Groups

As THON has grown since its first year in 1973, having smaller components within the well-structured internal committees enables the multiple facets of THON to perform their duties to the best of their abilities. Different committees work together for different functions of THON, and these groups are called focus groups.

TRIAD
TRIAD consists of Hospitality, Donor and Alumni Relations, Supply Logistics, and THON Overall, Kirsten Kelly. TRIAD is in charge of allocating donations and benefiting those that support THON and its needs throughout the year.

BJCOC
The Bryce Jordan Center Overall Committee has OPPerations, Rules & Regulations, Entertainment, Merchandise, Hospitality, Morale, Technology, and Family Relations. The members work with BJC staff to help keep a harmonious relationship with THON’s home to ensure safe and successful THONs for the present and future years.

OUTREACH FOCUS GROUP
Communications, Merchandise, Family Relations, and Public Relations comprise the Outreach Focus Group, which works to spread THON’s message and provide pediatric cancer awareness to all students, faculty, staff, and alumni at Penn State.

SEFG
Special Events Focus Group is made of Special Events, OPPerations, Rules & Regulations, Merchandise, Hospitality, Technology, Entertainment, and Family Relations. Special Events Focus Group obtains and creates all materials, food, and other necessities for THON’s special events throughout the year, such as the THON 5K and Family Carnival, as well as during THON Weekend, like Wigs for Kids.

FUNDRAISING FOCUS GROUP
Rules & Regulations, Finance, Donor & Alumni Relations, and Communications all work together in the Fundraising Focus Group to create sustainable fundraising methods, think of new ways to raise money For The Kids, and help THON Chairs of fundraising organizations raise money in the most effective manner.

RYB
“Red, Yellow, Blue” is a Focus Group consisting of Rules and Regulations, Morale, and OPPerations. These three committees have the most members volunteering throughout the weekend to make sure THON runs smoothly for all spectators, dancers, and, of course, the Four Diamonds families.
