Gimme Some Sugar, Swing Club Hosts Dance Night

Shimmy, shag or boogie your way over to Sugar On Top at 8:00 pm tonight for the Penn State Swing Club‘s dance/fundraiser trifecta. The guys and dolls are busting out the dancing shoes for a night packed with some jivin’ vibes and sugary sweets.

The theme of the night is “Candy Land.” There may not be gumdrops towers or ice cream cone castles, but there will be a night full of sweet activities.

Kicking off the night in truly groovy fashion, the club members will be teaching a crash course in how to not fit in at a frat party. They call it, “Sugar Candy.” The idea is to bust dance moves even more ridiculous than “The Dougie.”  With names like the Rear-to-Rear Mess-Around, you’ll either have a fun time looking goofy or file a police report full of “that’s what she said” jokes.

After making a complete fool out of yourself, phase two will come in to reenergize you. A raffle will be held where attendants can win prizes ranging from private lessons, homemade jewelry, and discounted swing workshops.

To bring the night to a close, Swing Clubers will be judging the best costume of the night. The guy and girl rocking the sweetest (last candy pun) Candy Land attire will win a gift card to Dunkin Donuts. If the night full of cupcakes isn’t enough calories, rummage through the closet for your candy cane sport coat to put the rest of the sugarplum fairies to shame and win some free donuts.

You don’t have to frequent Yehoodi to fit in with the swing kids. They’ll accept you even with two left feet. They may laugh at you for falling on your ass, but who wouldn’t. All they ask for is a $3-or-so donation. Hey, poodle skirts ain’t cheap!

Come out to Sugar on Top tonight at 8:00 pm for a night of music, dancing and cupcakes to help raise money for the Penn State Swing Club. That sounds pretty sweet to me. Okay, that was the last candy pun, for real.
