There are many quantifiable measures of THON’s success, namely how much money students raise from canning, rafflebooking, THONline donations, THONvelopes, and so on. The Family Relations committee, however, seeks success in an intangible and emotional way: through the children and families that inspire everything from the canning to the dancing.
Each year, hundreds of organizations raise tens of thousands of dollars for the Four Diamonds Fund. Organizing all of the money from these efforts would not be possible without 25 Finance captains, 150 committee members, and overall Vicki Marone.
You might know Shane McGregor as #2 on the football field, but this weekend, he will be showing off his skills in a different venue. Nope, I’m not talking about his self-proclaimed talent of “throwing things,” I’m talking about dancing. Tomorrow, the senior quarterback and his renowned flowing blonde locks will be hitting the dance floor to represent Parmi Nous in THON 2012.
One of my favorite parts of THON is the review of the last five line dances that THON has done which usually takes places right before Family Hour. There are some that are better than others (cough, 2008, cough), but they all make you remember about the events that happened in those years. Let's take a journey back in the day and relive these masterpieces of music.
Led by 28 points from Maggie Lucas, the Penn State women's basketball team got one of its biggest wins of the season on Thursday night against Purdue 74-63. The win moves the Lady Lions one step closer to a Big Ten regular season title. Next up for Penn State is a crucial game against Ohio State on Monday.
To many people reading this, the following tips will likely not apply to you. You're probably well-versed in THON culture and know exactly waht to do and expect this weekend; however, for all the THON gurus out there, there are also a few newcomers. Perhaps families (like mine) driving up to see it for the first time, friends from home visiting a dancer, and some freshmen witnessing their first THON inside the Bryce Jordan Center.
