We're only a few hours into THON and the dancers seem to be feeling jittery and energetic. So what are their first thoughts on this incredible experience? Onward State spoke to several dancers, including a few staffers that are down on the floor, to gauge their reactions to the outset of THON 2012.
Steve Leotta and Anthony Smith have been friends since they first met during their two years at Penn State Altoona. The two seniors have lived together for the past three years while being heavily involved in THON. This year, for the first time, they are both committed to 46 hours on the dance floor. Tucker Haas, the viral Black Eyed Peas one-man cover band superstar and Four Diamonds child announced on the THON webcast Friday night that he would be covering Party Rock Anthem this year.
With the countdown to THON kickoff drawing near, the campus is filled with positive energy and a strong urge to break out some sweet dance moves. One of the many questions asked by the student body is “Who is going to be keeping these dancers moving for 46 hours?” Well I’m glad you asked. There is a multitude of entertainment that will be taking the stage as well as the dance floor.
There are many quantifiable measures of THON’s success, namely how much money students raise from canning, rafflebooking, THONline donations, THONvelopes, and so on. The Family Relations committee, however, seeks success in an intangible and emotional way: through the children and families that inspire everything from the canning to the dancing.
