State College 4th of July Goes Street

That's right! For the first time, according to the Centre Daily Times, this year's Central PA 4th Fest celebration will feature a full-on parade. The Borough Council unanimously voted in favor of street closures to accommodate the inaugural Parade of Heroes. The parade is set to begin at 2 p.m. on July 4 at the Borough Building at 234 S. Allen St.

PSU Disappoints in Big Ten Tournament Opener

For the first 7 innings of Penn State's Big Ten Conference Tournament opener against Ohio State, everything was going right. The Lions had collected 13 hits going into the eighth and led the Buckeyes 5-3 when all of a sudden, the momentum swung and the Penn State bullpen and defense fell apart. The bullpen allowed 9 runs in the final two innings as the Nittany Lions fell 12-5.

G-Span Gets Paid

According to a recent report by the Chronicle of Higher Education, our much revered former President Graham Spanier made just under $1.1 million during the 2011 fiscal year. That makes G-Span the third highest paid President in public education, and only one of three to crack the 7-figure mark.

Baseball Team Draws Ohio State in Conference Tournament Opener

The Penn State Nittany Lions baseball team is headed to its second consecutive Big Ten Tournament berth, receiving the third overall seed, their highest position in the tournament bracket since 2008. The Nittany Lions have yet to take home a conference title and are hoping that they can survive in Columbus in order to receive their first after a strong finish to the regular season.

AP Report: Paterno Earns $13.4 Million Pension

In an AP report released this afternoon, it was revealed that Joe Paterno earned a $13.4 million state pension over the course of his 61-year career. The money will go to his widow Sue Paterno, who will receive a lump sum of $10.1 million by the end of this month with the rest being paid out over the next two years.
