Michael Mauti Brings Home Awards
Penn State senior linebacker Michael Mauti has some awards waiting for him following his dominant performance against Illinois on Saturday that featured two interceptions and a forced fumble.
Yesterday, Mauti was named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week for his performance. Earlier today, he was also recognized as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts. In addition to forcing three turnovers, Mauti recorded six tackles and had a huge impact on the defensive side of the ball throughout the 35-7 victory over the Illini.
Mauti also won this conference award two weeks ago for his standout performance against Navy that included twelve tackles and two tackles for loss.
Northwestern quarterback Kain Colter and Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez shared the Offensive Player of the Week Award. Colter will visit Happy Valley this weekend after running for 161 yards and 4 touchdowns against Indiana.
When Mauti last played against Northwestern in 2010, he had one of the best games of his career, recording 11 tackles and a sack. He’ll be looking to continue that dominance this weekend against the Wildcats.
