Meet the THON 2013 Overalls: Lakshmi Kolandra (SE)

As THON 2013 creeps closer each day, I compiled a little background information on each of the overalls. Today features Special Events Overall Lakshmi Kolandra. Also, make sure to watch the SE Committee of the Week video at the end of the post!

Lakshmi Kolandra, Special Events Overall

Current Year: Senior
Major(s)/Minor(s): Immunology and Infectious Diseases
Fun Fact: My nickname is Lucky.

1. Why did you want the position of Overall, and why for the committee that you now lead?

I wanted the position to be an Overall because I wanted to extend as much of my time and energy to this organization as possible. I love the cause and the impact that THON makes on the children and families, and I want to put my efforts to helping this impact grow for the future. I applied for the Special Events Committee because the kids and families have to fight year round, and Special Events is one great way to remind the THON community of that fact. I think it is very special in that it also allows ways for THON volunteers to interact with the kids and families on occasions other than THON Weekend.

2. What are you most looking forward to in THON 2013?

I’m so excited for absolutely everything this year. In THON it seems like there is always something new to look forward to. I am looking forward to seeing all of the things that THON 2013 will do to help increase THON’s success in the future!

Hailing from Lebanon, PA, I am a senior majoring in print journalism. Things I enjoy include lovesacs, denim, mullets, Fight Milk, Jonny Moseley, and "hang in there" kitten posters. Things that bother me include "fun" sized candy bars (not fun), fish, shoobies, wet door knobs, baby leashes, and Jake Lloyd.

Jim’s Army & Navy: The Greatest Store Ever

For those of you who have ventured onto the west side of Beaver Avenue, there is a good chance you have passed by Jim’s Army & Navy. If you are one of those people, your first thought when passing by Jim’s was most likely, “What the hell is going on in this store?” When a store’s window display boasts handcuffs (they even come in pink), switchblades, throwing stars, machetes, other swords, and ammunition, you really have no choice but to be utterly confounded. Little did I know that I was about to walk into the greatest store ever.
