Lucas and Bentley Receive All-American Honors

To nobody’s surprise, junior Maggie Lucas and senior Alex Bentley of the Penn State Lady Lions Basketball team were given Associated Press All-America honors when the list was released on Monday. Lucas was named to the second team and Bentley was given an honorable mention.

Lucas’s 2nd-team honors are the highest for the Lady Lions since 2004 when Kelly Mazzante was named to the 1st team. This is also the first time that multiple members of the team have received such honors since 2004.

Lucas ended the season with a remarkable 644 points and a 20.1 scoring average, which was 16th amongst the NCAA and 3rd in the Big Ten Conference. Bentley averaged 14.1 points per game as well as 3.5 assists on average.

The 2012-2013 season’s first team consisted of Baylor’s Brittney Griner and Odyssey Sims, Delaware’s Elena Delle Donne, Notre Dame’s Skylar Diggins, and Stanford’s Chiney Ogwumike.

The Lady Lions season ended last week when they were upset by the LSU Tigers, 71-66, in Baton Rouge, La. They ended the season with a 26-6 record (15-2 Big Ten) and the Big Ten Conference Championship.
