Not Getting a THON Committee Isn’t the End of the World

Being on the receiving end of a rejection call from a THON captain is admittedly painful. Although it’s natural to be disappointed that you didn’t snag the coveted committee member role for THON 2014, that doesn’t mean that you can’t still play an important part in the THON community. There are plenty of ways you can still take part in the fight against pediatric cancer this year.

One of the most popular alternatives to being on a committee is joining a special interest organization. If you’re looking for a huge group, then Atlas might be the way to go. As one of THON’s largest special interest organizations, Atlas has raised over $1 million for THON since it was founded in 2005. If you want a lot of Four Diamonds family time, check out Springfield, an org that is paired with 3 different Four Diamonds families. But don’t worry, if neither of these options appeal to you, there are soooooo many more to choose from, depending on what you’re into. (And if none of them feel like the right fit, you can always start your own org, too!)

Beyond that, it’s not too late to think about dancing independently. Anyone hoping to do so simply needs to raise $2,600 to be eligible for the section lottery; every $500 they raise beyond that earns them another ticket and, therefore, another chance at being chosen to dance. If you and a friend want to be two of around 700 dancers on their feet for 46 hours THON weekend, stop by the THON Office at 210 HUB to register or get more information.

Instead of sobbing over the “So super stoked to be a member of the _____ Committee for THON 2014!!!! <3 FTK!!!!” statuses flooding your news feed (and the infinite number of first-meeting photos that are about to take over Facebook), think of all the alternative ways you can spend your newfound free time to help a cause that you’re passionate about.

And if that didn’t make you feel any better, then these will:
