Tia Kaschauer Named Blue Band’s Next Blue Sapphire Twirler

We got a new Blue Sapphire, folks!

The Penn State Blue Band has officially announced Tia Kaschauer as its new featured twirler, the Blue Sapphire, for the 2026-27 season.  After the upcoming graduation of Mackenzie Bronk, Kaschauer will fill the role as the band’s 18th Blue Sapphire.

This born-and-raised Pittsburgher fills the respected role with a lifetime of twirling training. Kaschauer has twirled on countless stages prior to joining the Blue Band.

Kaschauer started twirling early at age 4. “I never learned how to swim, or ride a bike… But twirling, I learned,” said Kaschauer in her profile from Twirl Nation.

Coming from an all-girls high school in the city, Kaschauer has won seven Miss Majorette Pageants and won national championships twice.

Kaschauer has a long family history in baton twirling. Her mother, aunt, and grandmother all twirled in a band, which led Tia to follow the family tradition.

“I’m so excited to be a part of the Blue Band family! But I’m most excited to have an athlete book bag,” Kaschauer said on her announcement post.

Congratulations, Tia, and good luck!
