Penn State Love Stories: Part 7

This week, two couples who met at downtown bars and one who bonded (sort of) over a noisy basketball. Introducing…

Amy and Deron

He is: Deron Williams, Class of 1999

She is: Amy Williams, Class of 1997

They first met: When she was waitressing at the Gingerbread Man. He tended to sit in her section when she worked, and she says got butterflies whenever she saw him.

What happened next: He finally got the courage to ask her out. Their “official” first date was watching a Penn State Football game together.

Now they’re: Married

And have been together: 16 years

Their soundbite: “Penn State brought us together and we will always love and treasure our time there.”

Brandon and Melanie

He is: Brandon Morgan, Class of 2014

She is: Melanie Olson, Class of 2014

They first met: Their freshman year, when they both lived in Pinchot Hall and had classes together since they were both in Smeal. One day, Melanie was telling Brandon that the people who lived above her kept bouncing a basketball and making a ton of noise. As it turned out, it was him who was bouncing the basketball. (“He blamed it on his roommate, but I don’t buy it,” Melanie said.)

What happened next: They went to a few parties and dates together and officially started dating in February 2011.

Now they’re: Dating

And have been together: 3 years

Their soundbite: “We are both graduating in May and will be living in Manayunk working in Philadelphia after graduation. Go Phillies!”

Matthew and Melissa

He is: Matthew Dochter, Class of 2010

She is: Melissa Parrillo, Class of 2010

They first met: At a Halloween party in 2008, hosted by Melissa and her friend. “At that time he had a girlfriend, but I think we both felt that there was something between us,” Melissa said.

What happened next: After two months of studying together and hanging out, they went to Zeno’s to share a pitcher of beer. She told him she liked him and he said he felt the same. Melissa said, “Well were you going to do something about it?” Then he kissed her in the back room of Zeno’s.

Now they’re: Engaged

And have been together: 3.5 years

Their soundbite: “After the 4th of July this past summer, we went to Zeno’s with a group of friends. With some sneaking around, Matt was able to keep me distracted, change into dress clothes, and get Zeno’s to play our song through the sound system. Once I heard the song, I went to find him. There he stood, all dressed up waiting for me. He then proposed saying, ‘This was where it began, where I had the balls to say I liked [you]. Well now I have the balls to do this.’ He got down on one knee and I said ‘yes’!”
