Gap and Old Navy to Open in State College

The mystery around what will be opened next to the famed Trader Joe’s is solved.

The Gap Factory Outlet Store opened last week in Trader Joe’s Plaza on North Atherton Street. The Gap and Gap Kids locations at the Nittany Mall closed earlier this month, making the mall significantly more lame.

According to a Gap representative, the move was “to better serve Gap customers in the State College area.”

“Our Gap Inc. Outlet stores are just one way we extend our brands to a broader customer base,” said Gap Spokeswoman Kari Shellhorn. “The product sold at our outlet locations is specifically designed and produced with our Outlet stores in mind – offering customers a unique combination of style, quality and value.”

Old Navy is also slated to open next to the new Gap outlet. Al Pringle, CEO and president at Keystone Real Estate, which represents Trader Joe’s Plaza, said Old Navy should open within 30 days. Most likely, it will open in late February, but an exact date has not been set. There are also plans for a Men’s Wearhouse to join the plaza later this year, but more information on that is not currently available.

Gap and Old Navy are joining the already-established Trader Joe’s, Ulta, and Pier 1 Imports in the plaza.
