Lady Lions’ Ariel Edwards Signs with Tulsa Shock

Senior guard Ariel Edwards has signed a free agent contract with the Tulsa Shock, joining Maggie Lucas, as the only other Lady Lion to join the WNBA this season.

Edward’s only became a full time starter this year, and  finished seventh in the Big Ten with 15.7 points a game, which earned her a spot on the All-Big Ten team. She also became the 36th member of Penn State’s 1,000 point club after the first round of the NCAA tournament. She finished her career 34th in Penn State’s scoring history (1,054), 14th in career free throw percentage (.784) and sixth in three-point percentage (.395).

The Shock won the WNBA championship in 2003, 06 and 08. Edwards joins Skylar Diggins, the Notre Dame superstar who was the number 1 pick in the WNBA draft in 2013. After finishing the 2013 season 11-23 the Shock are looking to start afresh this season.

Head coach of the Shock, Fred William, was excited for Edwards addition to his team, “Ariel has had a great career at Penn State and I look forward to seeing her in camp,” said Williams. “Ariel had a terrific senior year at Penn State. She’s a powerful presence in the post and can help us in our interior area.”

We wish Ariel the best of luck at the next level!
