THON Changes Morale Committee’s Name To Dancer Relations

THON announced a change to perhaps its most recognizable committee Monday: The Morale Committee’s name will be changed to Dancer Relations for 2015.

According to the THON blog, Dancer Relations is a title that more accurately represents the committee’s duties leading up to and during THON. The role of Dancer Relations members will still include everything involving dancers, such as ensuring their safety, morale, and coordinating logistical components of the dancer experience during the weekend. The name change is simply a formality to better describe their role during the weekend.

“The new name of Dancer Relations more directly reflects the Committee’s purpose of serving as the primary liaison to student volunteers selected to dance for THON Weekend,” wrote Dancer Relations Director Vicky Brauer on the THON blog. “The name change displays the Committee’s increased focus on Dancer health and wellness.”

The name change comes following a period of change in the organization. Earlier this year, the Rules and Regulations Committee’s role was broken in two, with two separate committees for volunteer safety and event safety. THON also chose not to renew longtime DJ Larry Moore’s contract last month, following over 20 years of the DJ providing music for the event, instead giving way to the Entertainment Committee.

The biggest downside of the name change? Looks like we’ve heard “Morale captains to the stage!” for the last time.
