Sixth Annual Paterno Family Beaver Stadium Walk/Run On Sunday

The Sixth Annual Paterno Family Beaver Stadium 3-mile Run and 1-mile Family Fun Walk will take place this Sunday, April 19 at 11 a.m. The event, which benefits the Special Olympics Pennsylvania, has become a staple of Penn State’s Blue and White weekend.

The run/walk will begin at Curtin Road, with participants completing the final leg of the race through the players’ tunnel of Beaver Stadium, ending when they cross over the fifty-yard line.

Proceeds from the event will help send more individuals to the Special Olympics Pennsylvania Summer Games. In June, Penn State will host the Summer Games, which bring thousands of athletes and coaches to campus for three days of athletic competition.

For more than 20 years, the Paterno family has supported SOPA. The late Joe Paterno served as an honorary chair for the summer games, and Sue Paterno has sat on the Board of Directors since 1989.

Last year’s event raised over $400,000 for Special Olympics Pennsylvania and included more than 4,000 runners and walkers. While online registration has closed, interested individuals can still donate online or register outside of Medlar Field today or tomorrow or before the event Sunday.
