Dancers Demonstrate Their Favorite Stretches From THON 2016

Standing for 46 hours will certainly lead to some aches and pains. For this reason, both dancers and their Dancer Relation Captains need to keep their muscles loose and limber throughout the weekend. Since everyone’s body is different, dancers are bound to have a favorite stretch by the end of THON. Here’s what some of them said:

Lower Back Stretch – When their backs start to ache, Caroline Dorf and Catherine Shen have this go-to stretch. DRCMs grab their dancer’s hands as they both bend backwards, really giving their backs an excellent stretch.

Glutes And Hamstrings Stretch -Demonstrated by Tony Thornton and Maureen Beichert, this stretch focuses on the glutes and hamstrings. This stretch is very similar to the one listed above, but requires the THON dancer to place their foot on the opposite knee, loosening the hamstrings to keep them going for all 46 hours.

Groin and Leg Stretch – Dan Deegan loves this stretch that really gets low. By squatting down like a frog and keeping the knees out, this stretch helps relieve groins and legs.

Lower Back and Glute Stretch – Betsy Wermus opts for this simple stretch. Bend over and touch your toes, all while crossing your legs and keeping them straight. This one is excellent for stretching out the lower back, glutes, and legs.

Arm Stretch – Shelby Miller and Ryan Deberardinis love this stretch that intertwines both the dancers’ and DRCM’s arms. Partners lock arms and pull, really helping those biceps stretch out.
