Saquon Barkley Named To Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List

Saquon Barkley will attempt to become the second consecutive Nittany Lion to win the Rotary Lombardi Award after being named to the prestigious distinction’s watch list.

Barkley, who’s been named to a laundry list of preseason award lists and received his fair share of honors prior to the commencement of the regular season, could follow in the footsteps of former defensive lineman Carl Nassib, who won the award in 2015. The award was established in 1970 to honor former Green Bay Packers head coach Vince Lombardi, who played offensive guard and defensive tackle while in college at Fordham.

The distinction marks the third preseason watch list Barkley’s been named to, joining additions to the Doak Walker and the Maxwell Award watch lists.

Now, all Barkley has to do is perform, and if the hype generated from outside and within the program is any indication of what’s to come, he’ll likely do just fine. With the season approaching in a little more than a week, there’s plenty to be excited about when it comes to Penn State football.

But Barkley will be the main attraction, and he rarely disappoints.
