Gesicki Named To Mackey Award Midseason Watchlist

Penn State tight end Mike Gesicki was one of 31 players listed on the John Mackey Award Midseason Watchlist on Tuesday. Named for NFL Hall of Fame tight end and five-time Pro-Bowler John Mackey, the award has recognized the best tight end in college football every year since 2000.

After having just 24 catches for 239 yards in his first two years at Penn State, Gesicki this season is tied with Chris Godwin for the team lead in receptions with 23 and is third on the team in receiving yards with 272. He has also caught a pair of touchdown passes through six games. Gesicki was also on the preseason watchlist for the award.

Also included on the watch list was former Penn State player Adam Breneman who now plays at UMass as a graduate transfer.

Semi-finalists will be named on November 14th and finalists will revealed on Nov. 22. The 2016 recipient will then be announced on Dec. 7. Past Mackey Award winners include NFL greats Dallas Clark and Heath Miller.
