Jesse James Will Be Playing #FTK

As part of the NFL’s My Cause, My Cleats campaign this weekend where players will don customized cleats in support of charities of their choices, Pittsburgh Steelers tight end and former Penn Stater Jesse James will represent THON in his game against the New York Giants on Sunday.

James’ cleats read “Igniting Hope Within” and are gold, the color of pediatric cancer awareness and a slightly different shade than the Steelers’ traditional secondary color. Vincent James Candelore, a designer from Pittsburgh and based in Charlotte, NC created the cleats for James.

After ESPN personality John Buccigross’s public donation to THON earlier in the week, James is not the first sports celebrity to support the charity.

The NFL’s campaign this weekend will organize something that players have been doing recently. Using cleats as canvases for advocacy and awareness has become quite popular in the NFL, whether that be Brandon Marshall’s controversial borderline personality disorder awareness spikes in 2013 or the many designs annually memorializing the lives lost on 9/11. With how bright James’ kicks will be on Sunday, it’s safe to say many fans across the league will take notice of THON’s efforts to fight pediatric cancer.
