Overheard: Joe Jonas And DNCE At Champs

After numerous Twitter rumors, Joe Jonas graced the Penn State community with a surprise performance at the BJC with his band DNCE. In similar fashion, Jonas decided to shock us yet again with a performance at the new Champs downtown.

Fortunately, the folks at home who couldn’t make it to his performance or were just having a drink (or ten) at Champs, had the opportunity to see DNCE perform in front of a packed bar. Unfortunately for many of us who heard the news at 9:00 p.m., we all rushed over there and didn’t get to see them perform until close to 11:30 p.m.

I was one of the many unfortunate souls who waited two and a half hours for Jonas to take the stage. As dreadfully sober as I was, the people around me were definitely not. With a phone battery at 10 p.m. (Thanks THON) and nothing else to keep me entertained, I listened in on a crowd full of Jonas brother fans until the performance.

Girl, clearly living the dream: I’ve been a fan of the Jonas brothers since I was 13! I’m living the childhood dream right now oh my god!

Very drunk girl: I’m so close to the stage! If Joe is within arms reach I might just faint…and pull him down with me.

Impatient girl shouting to one of the crew members: We literally just came from his performance at the BJC. When is he coming to perform?!

Crew member: *Points to his ears and mouths “I can’t hear you” and walks away*

Random guy to his friend: Honestly, I don’t even like the Jonas brothers. I’m just here to snapchat this so that all my girl friends can be jealous.

Girl who has her priorities in order: Honestly, I’d rather stay here and wait for Joe than wait to get into the BJC. At least I can get chicken fingers here while I wait.

Girl who loves the Phyrst: I’m honestly surprised he’s not performing at the Phyrst since he spent his 21st birthday there.

Friend: The Phyrst would be a thousand times more cramped that it is here. We’re literally pushed up against the stage right now.

Phyrst Lover: What do you think his first drink there was? A trashcan? I also heard that it was one of those blowjob shots.

Friend: Who cares, I just want to see him already so that I can go home, sleep, and sober up before I have to go back to the BJC.

Girl who was slowly losing her buzz: When is he getting on stage! I can’t even get another drink cause if I move I’ll lose my spot.

Girl next to me: If you take a picture of me with him I will pay you!

Sorry, I don’t have a wide enough lens

Guy who is pumped to see DNCE: Dude I can’t believe they’re coming to perform here at Champs. Toothbrush is one of my favorite songs.

Guy’s roommate: Yes. I know. You play it every time you shower and brush your teeth.

Girls judging the guys next to them: Those guys seem more excited to see them than we are.

Girl’s best friend: We also just saw them at the BJC so maybe that’s why. I hope they don’t play the same set they did.

Note: They did, they didn’t seem too upset since they were still singing along

Longtime Jonas brother fan: Oh my god! I haven’t seen them since they were in Hershey in 2010! I was fourteen then and seven years later I’m still fan girling over Joe.

Girl who has a clear favorite brother: I still like Nick better.

Girl who overheard them both talking: Honestly, I’m just glad it’s not Kevin.

Eventually, Joe and the rest of the DNCE crew took the stage at Champs and played a similar set as to one they played at the BJC with fan favorites Toothbrush, Cake By The Ocean, and Body Moves. They even got a bottle of Fireball to pour out for the crowd as shown below.

Even though the wait was a long one, it was well worth it for those that missed out on their stellar BJC performance. Until next time, Joe.
