Piazza Family Creates Timothy J. Piazza Memorial Foundation
The Piazza family has created The Timothy J. Piazza Memorial Foundation in honor of Penn State student Tim Piazza, who died in February from injuries he sustained after falling down the steps at Beta Theta Pi fraternity.
The Foundation will host its first event in August: a charity golf outing at Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club in Bedminster Township, New Jersey.
Piazza was studying engineering at Penn State with hopes of ultimately developing and improving prosthetic devices for those in need. To honor his legacy, the Piazza Foundation will raise money to help people in need of prosthetic devices (particularly children) and provide a scholarship for a student at Hunterdon Central regional high school “who embodies many of the interests and attributes that defined Tim’s life.”
The Foundation created a GoFundMe page to accept online donations. At the time this story was published, the page had already received more than $5,000 in just two days — from more than 55 donors.
Donations can also be mailed to:
The Timothy J. Piazza Foundation, Inc.
P.O. Box 104
Oldwick, NJ 08858
The organization is in the process of applying for 501(c)(3) tax exempt status, which would make donations tax deductible.
A grand jury presentment unveiled that Piazza fell multiple times throughout the bid acceptance night as fraternity brothers refused to call emergency services. Then, they covered it up, even attempting to dress Piazza before calling 911.
Piazza was initially transported to Mt. Nittany Medical Center and then flown to Hershey Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead February 4. Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller filed a total of 1,098 charges against the fraternity itself and 18 former members, including involuntary manslaughter.
