Grab A Pair Of Heels And Walk A Mile In Her Shoes With Sisters On The Runway

The phrase walk a mile in their shoes will take on a whole new meaning at 5:30 p.m. October 26 thanks to Sisters on The Runway (SOTR). SOTR will host its annual “A Mile In Her Shoes,” where men and women will be asked to quite literally don a pair of heels and walk a mile across campus.

The annual event was created to symbolize the struggles and feats that women and men face from physical, emotional/mental, financial, and sexual abuse.

Registration for the walk will begin at 4:30 p.m. in 129A HUB. Participants are required to fill out a registration form and pay $5 to walk in heels and $10 to walk without heels. Payment will be accepted the day of the event in the form of cash, check, or Venmo.

SOTR is an organization committed to raising awareness about the reality and statistics of domestic and sexual violence. The student-run organization hosts fundraisers year-round to benefit the Centre County Women’s Resource Center, a local shelter that provides legal and counseling services to abused women and children in the State College community.

With October being National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, SOTR has led a month-long effort to educate the community on this issue. One in three women and one in four men will be the victim of physical violence in their lifetime. Just one person is far too many. SOTR works to eliminate that statistic, and walking a mile in her shoes is a great place to start.
