Red Car Takes ‘Race Car’ Rubber Match Over Blue

We’re not sure if this was the climatic finish of THON’s first-ever “Race Car” competition — two car banners, red and blue, start in the stands on opposite sides of the arena and race as spectators crowd-surfed them to the center Section 114 across from the main stage.

Red Car took the opener in the debut on early Saturday morning, while Blue Car battled back to win their next two meetings. Red redeemed itself with an easy win earlier Sunday morning, and now this race five might have been the decider.

Blue and Red looked equal out of the gates and into the corner, but that’s when tragedy struck for Blue. The Blue Car banner slightly collapsed from its pole strappings and Red was easily able to make its way down the home stretch for the win.

This might’ve been the last we’ll see of Red Car and Blue Car for THON 2018, but nothing’s official. Another race or two during the Final Four certainly couldn’t hurt, especially with the positive reactions this has been getting throughout the weekend.

We’ll see how it all plays out, but for now, congrats on a hard-earned lead, Red Car.

Unfortunately, former editor Steve Connelly has graduated. Where is he now? He might be doing something related to that PR degree he got in 2019. Maybe he finally opened that sports bar named after one of his photos, the Blurry Zamboni. Or he might just be eating chicken tenders and couch surfing. Anything’s possible.
