Celebrate Penn State Founders’ Day 2018: ‘For The Story’

Happy Founders’ Day, Penn State!

The university we all know and love was founded on February 22, 1855. Celebrate Dear Old State today with activities put on by Lion Ambassadors in the HUB and at Hintz Alumni Center.

Lion Ambassadors will set up shop in the HUB from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for students to play “some fun birthday games” and to give out blue and white cupcakes.

“Usually the Lion Ambassadors organize an event in the HUB, complete with cupcakes and decorations, for the university’s birthday,” Penn State Museum Founder and Lion Ambassador Nick Karafilis said. “This year, we decided to spice things up a little big and dig further back into the history books.”

The organization will hold “For the Story: A Celebration of Penn State History” from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hintz Alumni Center. The event will feature a display of historic collections from the Penn State Museum.

“Be sure to dress up and be ready for an elegant affair filled with food, history, and Penn State pride,” Penn State said in a release. The night will feature historic artifacts, documents, and photographs in a one night museum.

“The collection we have gathered comes from a variety of sources, including student organizations, private collectors, university entities, and the University Archives,” Karafilis said. “We tried to encapsulate as many perspectives and groups as we could, which is a massive challenge considering the event is only two hours and we have been working for months on gathering artifacts.”

Karafilis said he encourages everyone to stop by and experience something about Penn State history, “whether that be the famous or the yet-to-be-discovered.” There will be something for everyone at this year’s Founders’ Day celebration.

You’ve got to admit she looks great for 163.
