Saquon Barkley More Likely To Go No. 1 Overall After Browns Trade For Tyrod Taylor

One week after Saquon Barkley cemented his draft stock with one of the most impressive NFL Combine performances in recent memory, the likelihood of the former Penn State standout going No. 1 overall became even more likely Friday evening.

A monumental day in the Cleveland Browns’ rebuilding process concluded with the worst team in the NFL last season trading for Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

In three years with the Bills, Taylor threw for 8,857 yards, 51 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. The Virginia Tech product also did the unthinkable: leading the Bills to their first playoff appearance in 17 seasons.

So what does this trade have to do with Barkley?

The No. 1 pick seemed to be between Barkley and UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen in most mock drafts. The acquisition of a 28-year-old Taylor, who is coming off of the three best seasons of his career, makes it unlikely the Browns would acquire an NFL-ready quarterback prospect like Rosen, who has said he’d rather be drafted by the right team rather than go first overall.

Add in this class’s abundance of raw-talented quarterbacks such as Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson, the Browns have a few options of how they want to use their other top-five pick or even one of their three second round picks.

With Taylor and newly acquired Jarvis Landry, as well as other offensive assets like Duke Johnson and Josh Gordon, the once dismal-looking Browns now show a bit of promise, especially considering the potential they have in next month’s draft with two of the top four picks and four of the top 35.

Let’s just take a shot of reality, because this is all assuming a lot. It’s the Browns after all.

They confused Barkley with Jonathan Sutherland and brought back a coach who is 1-31.
