Temple Head Coach Responds To Pat Chambers’ Success Recruiting In Philadelphia

Penn State basketball learned its postseason fate when it was selected as a four seed in the NIT and matched up against Temple for the first round. Even before a lowly consolation tournament, there was chirping coming from Philly, where Penn State claims seven players from.

Although Temple head coach Fran Dunphy didn’t explicitly accuse Coach Chambers and his staff at Penn State of any illegal activity, he implied it pretty heavily.

“I do know that Patrick Chambers made a special move to make that happen as best as he possibly could, so they really worked hard at it,”  Dunphy said Sunday night after the NIT brackets had been announced. “I feel really good about how we recruit and how we go about doing what we do.

“We’re not going to get everybody, but nobody’s going to be more sincere and honest and to the point as the Temple staff will be.”

Tony Carr was the top recruit from Pennsylvania and the No. 42 ranked recruit in the nation, while Lamar Stevens was the fourth recruit in the state. Both players were huge commitments for Coach Pat Chambers out of Roman Catholic High School over a slew of local schools including Villanova and Temple.

The in-state postseason matchup will tip off in the first round of the NIT at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bryce Jordan Center on ESPNU.
