USA Today Ranks McSorley Top Quarterback Ahead Of 2018 Season

To quote a certain news publication whose opinions I’ve come to respect deeply over the course of the past few hours, “College football is almost here.” You know what that means, baby. USA Today is breaking down the best college football players at each position, and Trace McSorley is No. 1.

USA Today’s Paul Myerberg notes that this year is McSorley’s time to shine without being overshadowed by star running back Saquon Barkley, and he believes he’ll step up to the challenge.

Comparing McSorley to Baker Mayfield, Myerberg commends the starting quarterback’s “top-level awareness, underrated athleticism, and an impeccable grasp of his team’s offense in an undersized package.”

Myerberg rounds out his description of McSorley by saying he “possesses a drive you can’t measure in yards, touchdowns, or inches.” We like to call that moxie.

After a pair of tough losses at Ohio State and Michigan State crushed Penn State’s 2017 playoff dreams, McSorley will be back with a new story to write in 2018. He’s got a legacy to uphold, after all: the Nittany Lions haven’t lost a game in Beaver Stadium since McSorley earned the starting job in 2016.

Penn State opens its season against Appalachian State at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, September 1.
