Penn State Campus Recreation Indefinitely Delays Reopening Facilities

Penn State Campus Recreation has indefinitely delayed the reopening of its facilities, according to its website.

Previously, it planned to reopen most of its gyms and facilities, including the IM Building and White Building, on Monday, September 7.

“We know it’s been a long time and we’re going to have to wait just a little longer to welcome you back to our spaces and programs,” Campus Rec wrote on its website. “It will be worth the wait to see you all again.

“It will take all of us to successfully and safely resume operations and we thank you for your patience. We’ve been working hard to create spaces with distanced equipment and protocols that will reduce potential exposure with capacity limits,” Campus Rec continued. “Additionally, we’ve implemented a reservation system that will help us meet new capacity requirements.”

As of August 24, some Campus Rec facilities are being used for a variety of Athletic and Academic purposes. However, the facilities cannot be fully reopened until they are given “the green light.”

Students can still register for select intramural sports, including virtual competitions and in-person bocce ball, cornhole, and tennis. Registration for virtual programming must be completed by September 3, while in-person sports registration must be completed by September 17.

The Fitness and Wellness program will continue to stream live sessions daily through Campus Rec’s Instagram page. Currently, there are more than 100 fitness YouTube videos available for viewing.

Students are also able to try out the newly opened Shake Smart in the White Building to get their protein shake and acai bowl fix.
