Residents Displaced After State College House Fire

No one was injured but several residents were displaced after a second-alarm fire at a house in State College on Tuesday afternoon.

Alpha Fire Company responded at about 1:45 p.m. to a report of a fire at 133 N. Barnard St. and found black smoke coming from the third floor.

Residents of the house, which is converted into three apartments, evacuated. Firefighters also rescued a pet cat, which was unharmed, Alpha President Shawn Kauffman said.

The fire was under control by about 2:10 p.m., Kaufman said. Boalsburg Fire Company also responded to the scene, while Undine and Pleasant Gap fire companies transferred to provide coverage at the Boalsburg and downtown Alpha stations.

Kaufman said residents of the apartments were displaced as the house is currently uninhabitable because of fire damage. The American Red Cross was notified to provide assistance as needed.

The cause of the fire was still being investigated by the Centre Region Fire Marshal’s Office as of early Tuesday evening.
