Special Teamer To Wear No. 0 For Penn State Football
A member of Penn State football’s special teams will wear No. 0 this upcoming season.
The team announced the news with a special teams highlight video Wednesday night.
“This season we embark on a new tradition. One of us is going to earn the right to represent our special teams with a new number: zero,” the video said.
“The individual wearing zero represents all of us and drives our culture. He is a tough, dependable, disciplined, physical leader who inspires teammates with his accountability and production.”
Penn State’s decision comes after the NCAA announced this past February that college football players will now be allowed to wear the jersey No. 0.
The Nittany Lions haven’t announced which special teamer will wear the new number, but the highlight video featured current Penn State specialists such as Jordan Stout and Jonathan Sutherland. Sutherland was one of eight captains selected for the 2019 season.
Penn State and its newly minted No. 0 special teamer will kick off its delayed 2020 season against Indiana during the weekend of October 24.
