Jay Paterno Receives Ballot No. 409 On Election Day

Coincidence? We think not.

Jay Paterno, son of late Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, received a familiar-looking ballot when he hit the polls in Centre County Tuesday morning, according to a post on his Twitter page.

Paterno’s ballot was numbered No. 409, which happens to be the same iconic number of games his father won with the Nittany Lions between 1966 and 2011. It’s the same number you’ve probably seen on countless car magnets, shirts, and stickers while on campus.

Paterno said a poll worker called him out by his full birth name (which happens to be “Joseph Paterno”) when providing him with his ballot.

Paterno, a former college quarterback, played at Penn State from 1986 to 1990 before launching a coaching career of his own. For 12 years, he served as the Nittany Lions’ quarterbacks coach after holding positions at the University of Virginia, Connecticut, and James Madison.

Over the past decade, Paterno has become a columnist and currently serves on Penn State’s Board of Trustees. He unsuccessfully sought the Democratic Party’s nomination for Lieutenant Governor in 2014.

The polls close at 8 p.m. today, folks! If you need help finding your polling location or learning what’s on the ballot, consult our comprehensive guide. No matter what…vote!
