Penn State Hoops To Host Virginia Military Institute November 28

Penn State men’s basketball will face off with Virginia Military Institute (VMI) on Saturday, November 28, according to the Keydet’s official schedule release.

While Penn State hasn’t released its official schedule, the contest against VMI will most likely be its second of the season. The Nittany Lions will reportedly play Rider on November 22, also at the Bryce Jordan Center.

VMI is a member of the Southern Conference, a traditional one-team bid in the NCAA Tournament. The Keydets aren’t typically a basketball power, going 9-24 last season, and 3-15 among conference opponents. They managed to advance to the Southern Conference quarterfinals in March, where they fell to Eastern Tennessee State.

Penn State most recently played VMI in its 2015 season opener. The Nittany Lions won 62-50 at the Bryce Jordan Center, with Shep Garner leading all scorers with 15.

The Nittany Lions will be in unfamiliar territory going into the first week of the 2020-21 campaign, after former head coach Pat Chambers stepped down from his role as head coach. Interim coach Jim Ferry will be on the sideline for the Nittany Lions as they look for a long-term replacement.
