Penn State Hoops’ Domination In Pink & Black Uniforms Must Continue
How did Penn State men’s basketball respond to blowing a 19-point lead to Seton Hall last weekend?
The Nittany Lions broke out the pink and black jerseys.
Jim Ferry’s squad came out firing on all cylinders against No. 15 Virginia Tech Tuesday night and sailed to a 75-55 victory. The Nittany Lions dominated the Hokies in every facet of the game, as they won the turnover battle 14-5, shot 50% from the field, hit 12 threes, and hustled on both ends of the floor.
Penn State’s impressive night was carried by a career-high 24 points and eight rebounds from Izaiah Brockington, along with 14 points from Myreon Jones.
If the Nittany Lions want to keep that success rolling for their players and stifle their opponents with ease, they clearly need to start wearing their alternates more often.
“[Our guys] love wearing the pink and black,” Ferry said postgame. “We’ve worn them for every ACC/Big Ten Challenge. A couple years ago, we wore them a ton. I think our guys would like to wear them this year.”
Ferry went on to add that there may be more coming out about the team wearing the alternates more often. That should be music to the ears of Penn State fans, as the Nittany Lions boast a 12-0 regular season record while wearing the pink and blacks. The team’s only loss in the jerseys came to Minnesota in the 2019 Big Ten Tournament.
If a win over Virginia Tech in alternates sounds familiar, that’s because Penn State did just that back in 2018. The Nittany Lions took down the then-No. 13 Hokies at the Bryce Jordan Center in the pink and blacks. Myreon Jones led the way with 18 points, while Lamar Stevens added 14 and eight boards.
Sure, it’s fun to dominate the ACC in those spiffy alternates that also honor Penn State’s history, but the Nittany Lions clearly need to wear these jerseys more often.
In fact, Ferry should allow his squad to wear them quite literally whenever they want. If Tuesday night’s performance is any indication, the Nittany Lions may be the best basketball team of all time when donning these uniforms.
Stevens, a Penn State hoops legend, gave a simple answer back in 2018 when asked if he liked the throwbacks.
“Absolutely,” Stevens said.
Folks, when Penn State’s second all-time leading scorer says he likes something, you don’t change it. Do the right thing, Penn State men’s basketball, and go undefeated in the pink and black uniforms.
Look good, feel good, play good.
