Boiler Delivery To Impact West Campus Traffic February 8

Penn State’s delivery of an “oversized” 96-ton, 41-foot long boiler to the West Campus Steam Plant project on Monday, February 8, will result in impacts to traffic in the area.

To avoid school bus traffic conflicts at Spring Creek Elementary School, the boiler will leave the former Corning facility at 9:30 a.m and arrive at the West Campus Steam Plant job site by 11:30 a.m.

There will be rolling lane closures southbound on College Ave. and both lanes on Steam Drive, and Houserville and Puddintown roads.

The delivery will subsequently impact CATA’s service between 9:30 a.m and noon on Monday. The following stops located on Burrowes Street/Burrowes Road will be closed:

  • Deike Building
  • Waring Commons
  • Rec Hall
  • Westgate Building
  • James Elliot Building

The following detours will be in place for the K, HM, and P routes:

  • K Route: Buses will follow normal the route to South Burrowes Street at Calder Way, and afterward will turn left onto College Avenue, right onto North Atherton Street, right onto Curtin Road Extension, and left onto Curtin Road to resume its normal route.
  • HM Route: Buses will follow the normal route to Pattee Transit Center westbound, and afterward they will turn right onto Curtin Road Extension, left onto North Atherton Street, left onto Beaver Avenue (with a courtesy stop on Beaver Avenue near Burrowes Street), and resume normal routing.
  • P Route: Buses will follow the normal route to Curtin Road Extension, and afterward, they will turn left onto Curtin Road, service Pattee Transit Center eastbound, turn left onto Allen Road, left onto Park Avenue, left onto North Atherton Street, left onto Beaver Avenue (with a courtesy stop on Beaver Avenue near Burrowes Street), and resume normal routing.
  • Other CATABUS routes traveling along College Avenue may experience delays.

While no Campus Shuttle stops will be closed, delays during the delivery timeframe are likely. Real-time bus and shuttle locations can be found on the TransLoc mobile app or by visiting here.

Access to and from the Red K parking areas will only be available via Atherton Street northbound by traveling through the parking lot of the former FedEx Office building.
