Four-Star Quarterback Drew Allar Commits To Penn State Football

Penn State football’s Class of 2022 grew stronger Monday morning when it earned a commitment from four-star quarterback Drew Allar.

The Medina, Ohio native made his commitment official by announcing it on Twitter. In a statement, Allar expressed how excited he is to join the Nittany Lions soon.

“Growing up in Ohio, it has always been a dream of mine to have the opportunity to compete in the [Big Ten],” Allar said. “Thank you to Coach [Mike] Yurcich and Coach [James] Franklin for believing in me enough to give me the opportunity to play football for such an incredible program!”

Allar opted to join the Nittany Lions over a number of Big Ten rivals, including Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, and Illinois.

The 6’5″, 220-pound signal-caller is currently ranked the 10th-best prospect in Ohio and the 10th-best “pro-style” quarterback recruit in the country, according to 247Sports. He’s also the highest-rated quarterback to commit to Penn State under Franklin.

Allar is now the eighth prospect to join the Nittany Lions’ Class of 2022, which features a number of fellow four-star recruits, including receiver Mehki Flowers and offensive tackle Drew Shelton. Allar is the second quarterback in the class behind York, Pa. native Beau Pribula.

As a junior, Allar threw for 2,962 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2020.
