Penn State Women’s Soccer Ranked No. 9 In United Soccer Coaches Poll

Penn State women’s soccer is among the nation’s elite for yet another week, the United Soccer Coaches announced on Tuesday. After a two-win week, Erica Dambach’s team is into the top 10 once again at No. 9 nationally.

Last week, the Nittany Lions looked like the best version of themselves all year. Led by Sam Coffey and Ally Schlegel, the team dispatched Minnesota and Michigan by a combined score of 7-1. Both teams entered last week tied for third in the Big Ten, making the score-lines even more impressive from Penn State.

Coffey, Schlegel, and Co. now share the conference lead with Rutgers, and have built a sustainable gap over the rest of the field. The Nittany Lions and Scarlet Knights both have 19 points.

Meanwhile, the next closest teams, Illinois, Purdue, and Wisconsin, have just 13 points and are quickly running out of contention for the regular season title.

Rutgers also remains in the poll. The Scarlet Knights climbed two spots to No. 19 after another perfect week. Elsewhere in the Big Ten, Ohio State and Michigan were receiving votes.

For yet another week, the top five remains unchanged. Florida State, UNC, UCLA, TCU, and Duke highlight the nation’s elite, although Penn State could see itself reaching these heights soon due to the team’s unwavering form.

This isn’t the first time the Nittany Lions have been in the top 10 in 2021. Two weeks ago, after initially climbing to the top of the Big Ten standings, Penn State was rewarded with a No. 10 ranking. After a draw with Ohio State, the team fell to No. 11 before returning to top 10 in this poll.

The Nittany Lions also climbed in the TopDrawerSoccer ranking, moving up three spots to No. 15.

Penn State takes an away trip this week, before returning home for Senior Day on April 3 against Maryland. Dambach’s team will face Iowa on Thursday before making a trip to the banks of Lake Michigan to face Northwestern on Sunday.
