The 140th year of Penn State football kicks off as Marshall comes into town for the 11th annual Stripe Out game. It’s been 96 years since the Nittany Lions last encountered the Thundering Herd. Now, Matt Campbell has a chance to secure his 10th career opening-game win and his first as the leader of the blue & white.

Weather

Injuries

Since Marshall is not a Big Ten Conference opponent, Penn State’s injury availability report is not required to be made available prior to kickoff.

Matt Campbell said at practice on Wednesday that safety Jeremiah Cooper was probable for the game. The 2023 first-team All-Big 12 defender has been recovering from an ACL injury suffered last year with the Cyclones.

Linebacker Alex Tatsch and tight end Gabe Burkle are also recovering from severe knee injuries and were both considered doubtful heading into the game. Both players are expected to return against Temple on September 12.

Series History

The Nittany Lions have clashed with the Thundering Herd just twice ever, defeating them 26-7 in 1929 and 65-0 in 1930.
